Projects

In this section, you'll discover a snapshot of my writing expertise through a couple of my projects. Please keep in mind that the majority of my professional projects are subject to non-disclosure agreements or are intended for internal distribution only. Despite these limitations, this section offers a glimpse of my capabilities, showcasing two distinct examples that demonstrate my versatility in styles, formats, and topics.

Internal Email

Client: Recruiting @ [Company] Email Account
Company: Former Employer
Project Type: Email Announcement
Date: 2021
My Role: Writer

Project Summary:

The project objective was to create an email announcement for the Recruiting division of a major technology company. The email was aimed at informing nearly 600 global employees about an important company update. As a new employee in the role, this project marked my first assignment, requiring multiple versions and consultations with relevant stakeholders. The goal was to craft a message that was clear and concise, effectively conveying the intended message to the target audience.

The Challenge:

As the email was to be sent from the main Recruiting Communications account, selecting the appropriate tone and style for the message was of utmost importance. The challenge was to ensure that the message was delivered in a manner that resonated with the target audience while also aligning with the company's brand image. To achieve this, I had to consider the diversity of the audience and the potential for the message to be received differently in different regions. Additionally, the message had to be drafted to comply with the company's voice, tone, and style guide.

The Solution:

To overcome the challenge, I intentionally crafted a tone that was informative, unambiguous, and direct. I also consulted with relevant stakeholders to ensure that the message was in line with the company's communication policies and standards. Through a collaborative process, we were able to develop a final version that effectively conveyed the intended message while also adhering to the necessary guidelines. This approach allowed us to deliver a message that was well-received by the audience and consistent with the Recruiting Department's internal brand image.

The Results:

The email announcement was successfully distributed to nearly 600 global employees within the Recruiting division. The message was received positively by the target audience, as evidenced by the feedback received from employees. The project also provided an opportunity to develop my skills in project management, stakeholder engagement, and communication. Overall, the project was a success, meeting the objective of delivering an effective message while adhering to the necessary guidelines and policies.

The Challenge:

The primary challenge in crafting the communication was to strike a balance between personalization and maintaining consistency with the company's tone and voice. I had to ensure that the letter reflected the Head of Recruiting's personality and writing style while also staying true to the company's overall tone and voice. Another challenge was to use language that would resonate with a diverse audience of new employees from different backgrounds and regions across the globe.

The Solution:

To address the challenge, I conducted research on the Head of Recruiting's previous messages and communication style, and used those examples as a guide to craft the welcome letter. The language and tone were personalized to make the email sound like it came from him personally, while the content and style were carefully aligned with the company's voice and tone.

The Results:

The welcome letter was well-received by the new recruiters and other employees who joined the Recruiting organization. The letter was personalized and reflected the Head of Recruiting's personality and writing style while maintaining consistency with the company's voice and tone. The language used was inclusive and easy to understand, resonating with a global audience. The project allowed me to develop my writing skills, research abilities, and attention to detail, contributing to my overall professional growth.

An email that Gavin wrote on behalf of a leader that was intended to be sent to welcome new employees to the company/organization.

Project Summary:

The project objective was to create a warm welcome letter to new recruiters and other employees who joined the Recruiting organization of a big-tech company. Writing on behalf of the Head of Recruiting, I analyzed the writing style and tone of the previous messages he had sent and mirrored them as closely as possible. The goal was to make the email sound like it came from him personally while still maintaining the overall tone of the company's tone and voice.
